The Taipei 101 skyscraper is not just one of the tallest buildings in the world, but it’s
also a technological marvel. Standing at a height of 508 meters and known as one of
the most striking landmarks in Taiwan, the colossal structure is a beacon of progress
and innovation.
Completed in 2004 with architectural features borrowed from both Eastern and
Western traditions, Taipei 101 boasts several major technological achievements. One
of the most impressive is its express elevator system, which has been certified by the
Guinness Book of World Records as the fastest in the world. Another amazing
attribute of the building is its 660ton wind damper, the largest in the world.

In this video we will be learning about civil structural engineering in Taipei 101. The structural design and analysis behind Taipei 101 are extra ordinary. We will talk about the Tuned mass damper (TMD) used for building during typhoons. We will also see how the building resists the lateral forces of wind and earthquakes by super columns, outriggers, belt trusses and braced core. Pile foundation used in Taipei 101 is also demonstrated. Taipei 101 will be used as a case study for long time for future buildings due to its remarkable engineering and construction.
